How to Keep Headphones from Tangling

Tangled Headphones
Nothing is more frustrating than tangled headphones, and there are numerous ways to prevent this from happening. If you want to keep your headphones from constantly getting tangled up, it is highly recommended that you look into some of the different methods and ways to avoid this headache of a situation altogether.

Retractable Earbuds

One of the most effective ways to prevent the tangling of headphones is to get retractable earbuds, which you can reel in once you are done with them. This will ensure that you never have to deal with untangling your headphones ever again. You can even attach them to your backpack or keys, making them extremely convenient. Retractable earbuds don’t typically cost very much, and they are a great overall investment to make.

Hang Them Up

Perhaps the simplest way of avoiding the dreaded tangled earbuds is to simply hang them up on a hook at home. This will keep your headphones straight so that you won’t have to spend a long time untangling all of the knots. If you are going out with your headphones, you can hang them up around your neck.

The Figure 8 Method

There is a nice little method that you can use to keep your headphones untangled at all times. It might seem a little bit tricky at first, but it’s pretty easy once you’ve done it a couple of times. The first step in this method is taking your headphones and pressing them against the palm of your hand. You will then need to wrap them around your index finger and little finger in a figure-8 motion. Once you have around 14cm of cord left, wrap it around the center.

After you have gone around two or three times, you can pull the headphones off your hand. Tuck the very end of the headphones under the wire. This is a pretty fool proof method, but it takes a little bit of practice. Those who have done this enough times will be able to do it in a matter of seconds.

Hair Clips

You can also use hair clips to keep your headphones untangled. This is one of the cheaper and easier ways to do this, and it can be quite effective. Binder clips also work pretty well, and you can get them at any office supply store.

Prescription Bottles

If you have any old prescription medicine bottles around the house, you can use them to store your headphones after you fold them up. This will provide you with a tight little space to keep your headphones so that you won’t need to untangle them ever again. These bottles are narrow enough to where the headphones shouldn’t get tangled up at all while they are inside. An Altoid tin can also work for this purpose, but you can essentially use any small container that doesn’t allow for much movement.

Organizer Devices

There are lots of different headphone organizer devices that you can buy online and in stores. These little devices provide you with something to wrap your headphones around so they don’t get tangled. There are a lot of these products, so it’s important that you take the time to find the right one. Most headphone organizers are very simple and easy to use. They are designed in such a way as to keep your headphones wrapped up so they don’t get knotted up at all.

There are a wide range of solutions that you can use to keep your headphones from getting tangled, and it’s imperative that you look into as many of them as possible. Eventually you will find a solution that works for tangled headphones.
